How would people describe you?
People would describe me as being caring, compassionate, helpful. Always put others needs before my own. Wear my heart on my sleeve. Find it hard to say no and always go that extra mile.
What did you do before you joined Beloved Homecare?
Before I joined Beloved Homecare, I have worked in an office environment since leaving school in 1989 in various roles, mainly customer service. I did try my hand at retail for 12 months after being made redundant back in 2006 but that was just not for me.
What was motivation in applying for the job?
From 2017, I worked for a leading energy company with previous experience in the trade. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I was forced to work from home. Not being able to see my work colleagues for over 12 months, being in the same place 24/7 and home schooling my son had a massive impact on my mental health. It caused me to suffer from anxiety.
I reached a point where enough was enough. With my excellent people skills and my caring nature, I decided I needed to change my career completely. This was an overnight decision. I checked the job sites on the internet to see what was available other than office work and the job for Care Assistant came up for Beloved Homecare.
From all the other companies in Trafford, what attracted you to Beloved?
I did apply for a job with another care company within the Trafford area, but the thing that put me off was the lack of communication.
After carrying out some research on Beloved Homecare beforehand, the main things that attracted me was the fact that it was a family run business and also that they had been awarded outstanding by the CQC. I was also attracted by some of the reviews from past and present carers too.
With little experience, how did you find the training that was provided?
I found the in-house training to be exceptional and informative. Wendy shared all her knowledge and experience with us, which put my mind at ease. The next stage of the training was shadowing with other carers, which you need to have an open mind. I really enjoyed this time, meeting the other carers and our lovely clients.
What is the best part of the job?
The best part of the job is knowing you have made a difference to someone’s life, however small it may be. The job is definitely rewarding. I enjoy seeing our clients and meeting their families.
I love being part of a wonderful team of carers and the best care company in Trafford.
Is there anything about the job that you find difficult / challenging?
I wouldn’t say that there is anything difficult about the job because once you get to know your clients and get into a routine, it is plain sailing. The only thing I would say that can be challenging is keeping your timings in check and making sure you stay within your time. Although, the management team are very supportive if anything untoward should happen.
What would you say to someone who is considering a career change into care?
If I knew someone who was considering becoming a care assistant, I would say do it. I have never looked back since I started my job and I only wish I would have done it years ago.
Any final remarks?
I would definitely promote Beloved Homecare as an employer. Mark and his team are all wonderful. It is a professionally run business, they are approachable, very supportive and care about their staff.
