Life before homecare
“I used to travel the world with my husband before he passed away. He was in the army. I used to live in all sorts of different countries. Like Germany for example, I lived there for 7 years and had 4 kids there. One of the longest jobs I had was working at the Post Office using the computer. Back then computers were very different from what they are now. This computer could only communicate with other computers in post offices across England.”
What was your experience like with your previous care provider?
“I used to be with another local care provider before I switched to Beloved. The previous company was terrible, the way they treated the staff is awful. Their staff would walk into my house and their eyes would be shut because of all the long hours they had to do. I’d ask them how they were doing, and they’d always say, ‘I’m alright. I’m just tired’. It was constantly like that and sometimes they only stayed for 5 minutes. How could they take care of me when they couldn’t even take care of themselves? So, I decided to change providers.”
“It was a member of staff from that previous care company that recommended Beloved Homecare. When you build a strong relationship with the carers that walk through the door, you feel comfortable in asking them questions like this. My previous carer told me that she heard of Beloved’s reputation for providing great quality care.”
I got in touch with Mark (Managing Director) over the phone. After a quick chat over the phone, he and Wendy (Registered Care Manager) visited me in my own home and met my 2 daughters. They were there to ask questions and carry out an assessment. The first thing they asked me is what I needed and what I was looking for. I said I wanted to be looked after and I wanted to be happy. After the assessment, I got a call from Mark the next days saying they can take me on as a client. I even sang to Mark when they agreed to take me on. I just kept singing ‘I’m so happy, I’m so happy’.
Pet friendly care services
Betty has 4 incredible finches that keep her company. The 2 adults have recently given birth to 2 baby finches earlier this year. Our carers do an incredible job to help with pet maintenance and help keep them happy.
Quickfire Q&A
To help you get more acquainted with our client Betty we decided to ask her some short questions about herself and what she would do in specific scenarios. This is what she said:
What is your favourite colour?
“Purple”
What’s your favourite chocolate?
“My favourite is chocolate biscuits. Fox’s in particular. They are beautiful!”
If you could have one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?
“Definitely curry. I enjoy the spices that are associated with curry. I learned how to make curry during my time in Malaysia. My husband was the one who told me to try genuine Malaysian curry for the first time and I nearly choked on it. Over time I began to appreciate curry more and more.”
What’s your favourite film?
“Doris Day was my favourite actress. She would have been before your time, but I loved the movies she was in. She was such a beautiful singer.”
What was the best place you travelled to?
“Malaysia. The people were very nice, and I used to live in a bungalow that wasn’t very far from a swimming pool. The little kids next door used to wait for my husband to come home from his work trips because they knew he would have brought back some sweets for them.”
What’s the one place you have always wanted to go but have never been to?
“I’m not too sure. Australia seems interesting. My granddaughter went backpacking a while ago and she stopped in Australia. She’s not been back since and has lived there for 10-12 years. She’s just recently bought a house there and she loves the country. She’s living in Byron Bay at the moment.”
If you could invite 4 people to a dinner party (dead or alive) who would you invite?
My husband, my friend Beryl who’s recently passed away and who I was friends with for over 50 years, Tom Jones, and Elvis Presley.
If you could go back in time what piece of advice you would give your 20-year-old self
“I would tell myself not to be afraid of learning new things and learn as much as possible. I would tell myself to learn more about computers because I now know how useful they are.”
