I’ve worked as a carer at Beloved Homecare for almost three and a half years now, and I can honestly say I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’m lucky to have found something that I’m really good at.
Before I joined Beloved I was working as a Retail Assistant at The Perfume Shop, which was fine, I didn’t dislike the job, but I just had this feeling that I was capable of more, and many days I’d go home and think ‘I wish I was getting a bit more fulfilment from my work’.
My friends and family have always said I’m a people person, naturally kind and caring, so I started looking at carer roles in the area and discovered Beloved Homecare online.
I immediately thought: ‘these look a bit different to the other care agencies about’ – and the more I read about them the more I wanted to apply.
They just seemed like a really professional and personable group of people, which I think is helped by the fact it’s a family owned and run business. That really appealed to me, being part of a close knit team of caring people. As well, the benefits and pay that Beloved offered was far better than what any other home care company in Trafford offered.
On a practical level I also felt like I could fit the bill. As I say, I’m a natural people person, but being a working mum of three kids, I’ve also had to learn to be well organised, patient, but also firm when I have to be.
My first few days with Beloved were in the office with Wendy, who is the registered Care Manager. Wendy was great, she was informative and gave stories and pieces of advice from her past experiences of working in care.
The induction covered absolutely everything that we needed, from dementia awareness to medication management. You name it, we covered it.
After the induction, I was still in my training period. I then went on to ‘shadow’ more experienced members of the team for two weeks out in the community. All the girls I met were lovely and answered all my questions. They spoke great about the company too which reassured me I had made the right decision in joining Beloved.
After I’d completed my training, I felt confident to go ahead and work on my own. The management team are always on hand to offer support. I know whether I’m working early/late/weekend, I can call the office and ask for advice and support.
I would definitely recommend caring to anyone who feels they have the right qualities, and I’m really pleased to have found a job that feels rewarding and fulfilling, knowing that I’m able to make such a positive difference in someone’s life.
The job has its challenges, but the hard work is 100% worth it. Beloved are a fantastic employer too and they encourage individuals to progress and develop themselves further.
