Happy 100th Birthday Ken

We would like to wish one of our clients, Kenneth (aka, Ken) a very happy 100th birthday. An incredible achievement for such a wonderful gentleman.

Like we did with Doreen, a few months back, we visited Ken with a birthday card and cake in tow. Whilst we were with Ken, we asked him and his family a few questions about his life so far!

Where was Ken brought up?

I was born and bred in Stretford on the 22nd of April 1921. I then moved to Urmston when I married my wife, Irene, 75 years ago. Our wedding day was the 11th of December 1946.

Mother & Father’s occupation?

My father, Alfred, was a butcher whilst my mother, May, was a homemaker.

Ken’s occupation?

I was employed as a Service Engineer and Manager with Kearns Richards. They were based in Broadheath, in Altrincham. I then worked for Staveley Industrial Tools when they took over the company.

Did Ken Marry? When did his wife pass?

I married Irene in December 1946. She passed away 20+ years ago.

What were Ken’s hobbies?

I loved to cycle, garden, and do woodwork.

Does Ken still do something now that he did when he was young? Has he carried anything through 100 years?

I enjoy my food, you can’t beat a good chip!

Favourite food – favourite band/music – favourite place he has visited.

Most food! I liked visiting places like Holland, and France.

What advice would you give to someone in their 20’s.

Listen, learn, and do not rush into anything.

How does it feel to be one of few to reach 100?

No different than being 99.

What is the secret to your longevity and health?

Make sure you look after yourself.

Most important event/ time of life?

My wedding day, with Irene, on the 11th of December 1946.

Do you have any regrets?

I do not have any regrets. I have enjoyed my life.

A few messages from some of Ken’s regular visitors below.

Thank you to Ken’s care family for all you do and the joy you bring into his life. We appreciate all you do.
