Working life
As a Healthcare Assistant (HCA), you’ll work under the guidance of qualified healthcare professionals, in this case, our Care Manager Wendy Gorton and Care Supervisors Emma Sharples & April Duffy. Sometimes staff working in HCA roles are known as Care Assistants and Carers.
This is an incredibly diverse and challenging role that provides a lot of job satisfaction. At Beloved Homecare our Trafford Carers visit the homes of our clients and deliver essential support and care. Our clients include seniors and adults with long-term illnesses. Many of our clients do not have serious health conditions and just need a helping hand with day-to-day activities. As a carer your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Personal Care – Washing and dressing clients, personal grooming such as nail care, shaving, incontinence care, monitoring nutrition and weight, and medication management.
- Meal planning and preparation
- Helping people move around
- Social care – helping our clients visit places they love such as restaurants, cafes, garden centre, Trafford Centre, etc..
- Making beds
- Monitoring client conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight
- Catheter care
HCAs work with a range of healthcare professionals including GP’s, pharmacists, social workers, and district nurses, taking a holistic approach to the persons care.
“Absolutely fabulous company. Very supportive and caring. Not only do they care for there clients but also their staff. I’m lucky enough to work for them and love my job! 5/5 stars!”
Entry requirements
There are no set requirements to become a Healthcare Assistant. At Beloved Homecare, we seek out people with a positive attitude to care and who share the same values as us.
Many of our HCA’s come from various backgrounds. One individual came to us as the head of a scientific research department in a hospital whilst another carer came to us straight after finishing college. Many of our Care Assistants have retail and hospitality backgrounds. As long as your caring, kind, cheerful, friendly, willing to do personal care tasks we want to hear from you.
One requirement we do ask for is that you need access to a car and a full driving license. This is because you will be driving to our client’s home to deliver care in the Trafford Borough.
Training and development | Trafford Carers
Your training as a Healthcare Assistant will begin when you start your 4-day in-house induction at our Urmston office. During the 4-day induction process, you will be mentored by senior members of our care management team. You will be taught the basics of delivering care which includes medication management, food and fluid monitoring, equipment handling, health and safety and much more.
No experience is required as full training will be given to you in the way we do things as the only ‘Outstanding’ home care provider in Trafford.
You will also complete qualifications such as:
- The Care Certificate
- End-of-life care certificate
- Dementia Care
- Person-centred care course
On-going training will be provided to meet your needs.
In July 2020 we transformed our training room into a typical home-setting of an elderly client. This gives our recruits a simulated experience in what it would be like delivering care in a client’s home. This new environment puts our recruits at ease when delivering care for the first time as they have trained in a similar environment before. Our new training room includes equipment such as a reclining bed, armchair, commode, walking sticks, moving, handling equipment, dementia simulation suit and visual impairment glasses.
